ABOUT ABOUT

Lost Radio Rounders honor the centennial of America’s entrance into World War I with a performance of Home of the Brave: Songs of Soldiers & Sailors, 8 p.m. Saturday, April 8 at Sand Lake Center for the Arts. Over the last decade, the critically-acclaimed roots duo Lost Radio Rounders has presented themed programs of historic American music throughout the Northeast, and in 2016 toured its popular Politics and Patriots show from New England to New City. With the heartfelt, inspiring and often humorous Home of the Brave: Songs of Soldiers & Sailors, Tom Lindsay and Michael Eck (joined by special guest, Mike Kelley, on piano) honor service folk of every stripe, from the American Revolution to World War II.

Selections like the inspiring “Battle Cry of Freedom,” rousing “Marines’ Hymn,” the winking “Battleship of Maine” and the comical “Mademoiselle from Armentières” reflect the Rounders’ broad reach, with Lindsay and Eck performing vintage-radio-style on a single microphone with a variety of acoustic instruments. Members of the armed forces have always created songs to lift spirits in the barracks and on the battlefield, to commemorate victories, to praise fallen comrades and to remember their sweethearts back home. With Home of the Brave: Songs of Soldiers & Sailors, you’ll want to sing along with all of them.

At SLCA, Lost Radio Rounders will feature a timely segment marking the 100th anniversary of the United States’ entry into The Great War, and Dr. Jon Hausman will present WWI era audio recordings and artifacts in the lobby before the performance and during intermission.
